Another untold story of Pesticides are they really cured humanity and prevent us from famine and death. Where humans are in danger and pesticide serves as our weapon for untouchable and countless enemies.

This is second part of the "Pesticide Is Essential" and 5th article for Eunoia:HybridX. Where I going to discuss to you some things about Agriculture in field of Crop Protection. Where the harmful pesticides cured many diseases and proved not a killer bur serves as cure.

History may repeat itself, again what is written on the holy biblical book. In time of Moises where Insects, rodents, flees conquer the Pharaoh’s kingdom, that was happened because there is no Pesticide presents yet at their time.

Actually, in real life situation there was happened and worse more, that Millions of Innocent children died in hungers, People starve to death and some choose to travel far just for sake of survival.

That is in Ireland, there was a Potato blight that causes famine and kills millions of people, force themselves to travel far with sorrow and guilt just to skip hunger and closed death in 1852 like what happened on Pharaoh’s curse.

Potato as main food source was infected by a fungus (Phytophthora infesta) also known as water mold. This organism can also infect some other member of Solanaceae (Night shade plants). 

Example of Night shade plants are:

Eggplant (Solanum melongena)

Tomato (Solanum lycopercicum)

Pepper (Capsicum annuum)

P. infestans is still difficult to control. I actually witness how this unseen enemy clear my friend’s thesis about tomato in my college year. Where he needs recast and burn the whole plant specimens to control the spread and manifestation to another crop nearby.

Losses and sorrow are in our heart that time, we spend days even nights just to fill he’s research, but ended up loss. That’s how really hard to conduct experimental thesis for agricultural crops. Spend days and month but could vanish just a blink of eyes.

If you ask me if Pesticides cured the Blight fungal? NO. Pesticide is different from fungicide. But how pesticide cured humanity? Here it is.

Pesticide Vs. Malaria

Malaria is disease caused by a parasite. It spread to human through the bites if infected mosquito. People who have malaria usually feel sick with a high fever and shaking chills.

The malaria situation in the Philippines has rapidly evolved over years, and expected to hit high point during next following year if we still continue to pollute our canals drainage that is home base for mosquitos.

This is a great example why pesticide is essential. 

Pesticide Vs. Dengue

Unlike Malaria, Dengue Fever has specific mosquito to be carrier of disease. Its Aedes aegypti. It’s the common problematic health issue in the Philippines especially during rainy seasons.

In kingdom Animalia, Mosquito has the record of killing more humans than snake and shark. It kills Million and still a threat this day.

Fogging is used to control the reproduction of mosquito. As the Pesticide is Essential, some people used lotion that has mosquito repellant. They applying this product when going out and before asleep. (Off Overtime Lotion)

Pesticide Vs. Encephalitis

Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain. These is mostly common viral infection (Virus). Often causes only mild flu-like sign and symptom.

This comes from arboviruses.  Arboviruses are passed onto people and animal by insects.

Pesticide Vs. Murine Typhus Fever

Flea-borne (murine) typhus, is a disease caused by a bacterium called Rickettsia typhi. Typhus is spread to people through contact with infected fleas.

Are you removing your dog flea by naked hand? Maybe it’s a bad idea Afterall.

Pesticide Vs. Eunoia

I am not PRO or ANTI Pesticide, but I am curious Agriculturist. Even if my former teachers, Agriculturist friend, farmers, says Pesticide is harmful, I won’t believe just like that. We need to unlock the other side of the story. There is untold thought that other people may not know.

What publish in magazines, news, documentary had focus on the bad side effect of pesticide. Ignored some facts that actually everybody needed to know. That is the good effect of Pesticide in our life. 

Pesticide not kills human life, its actually protects us from dying.

So, the government are now aware, and even passed Republic Acts ("Organic Agriculture Act of 2010") and resolution about this pesticide, tolls huge tax to the chemical company, and the company passed the burden to the farmers. It’s just a cycle of problems.

Pesticide kills insects, that causes irritation and dis comfort to human and livestock, but actually Pesticide also kills our farmers. Because of huge taxation and high price, there hunger stomach can’t cure by Pesticide.

Pesticide Can’t Cure Farmers Hunger. And if the real issue that Pesticide is bad for human, Farmers will be the first one to be affected with the harmful content.

That’s right, they can’t cure the farmers growling stomach, because people expect Pesticide cure farmers’ pocket. By using Pesticide, they think they could produce more, they could lessen the lost from an insect bug. But the reality they also lose money by doing so while risking their health for their families.

Why Farmers Need Pesticide? Here’s another reality why farmers do.

• People choose to buy good looking vegetables and fruits.

Good looking can catch attention of buyers, the vegetables that is for sale at malls, they look the same, the color, shape and even the packaging style. How could we expect farmers to make a perfect looking veggie if they don’t use Pesticides?

• People purchase insect damaged crop on a low cheap price.

Rejects as what they said, one dot could be categorized as bad, irregular shape could be considered as not edible. They don’t have the choice to sell in low cheap prize for not be waste.

• People don’t have idea what they consume.

As personnel at the farm field, I always choice the vegetables present at the local market with a little damage, its shows that they don’t used excessive pesticide to their produce.

Pesticide may cure diseases but not farmer’s hunger.
