The first leg of this tie happened at the home of Sevilla and they would at first be hoping to deny Dortmund any away goal and make their home advantage count but they got another thing on the card. Even though they produced well on the night but it was still not enough for them to win this tie. Dortmund went with 3 away goals and a winning advantage too. Reducing the deficit to just one goal is a plus for Sevilla and they would be banking on getting their own early away goal to calm their nerves when the second leg comes.

Sevilla started brightly and the former Liverpool man; Suso put Sevilla ahead with a sublime finish. It only took him 7 minutes to register the first goal of the night. He produced brilliantly after cutting into his right leg. He unleashed a shot even though it took a wicked deflection off Matt Hummels.

Dortmund responded beautifully in the 19th minute when Dahoud scored. It was a long-range strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance at all. The ball found the top right corner of the net. This is the kind of goal that is worthy of breaking the stretch of 728minutes of not conceding a goal that Sevilla's defence/Goalkeeper has created. Duly deserved.

It wasn't long after that again, in the 27th minute, Haaland received a return pass and smashed home the ball for his first goal of the night and Dortmund's second. That goal was his 17th goal in 13 games in the Champions League. What a remarkable return. That's impressive statistics too.

Haaland was denied a second on the night in the 33rd minute when he smashed a thumbing shot after receiving the ball at the edge of the box but the goalkeeper saved it for a corner kick. What a strike it was. He is a definition of an explosive striker.

He wasn't to be denied for long and in the 43rd minute, Reus played Haaland in and he produced a fine and cool finish with his first touch on the ball. The ball found the back of the net in a lovely way. From being a goal down to being 3-1 up. Dortmund produced on the night. They were impressive.

Sevilla was determined not to have the game go beyond them and in the 84th minute De Jong got on the end of a lovely freekick and he produced a cool finish to make it 3-2. He gave Sevilla something to hang on to while heading for the 2nd leg.

The game ended 3-2 and Dortmund would be happy with 3 goals away from home.

Sevilla suffered a back to back home defeat for the first time in the Champions League while Dortmund got their 2nd ever away win against a Spanish side in the Champions League as well. They have only had 3 draws and 7 losses against Spanish sides away from home. Tonight was their first victory since beating Atletico Madrid in 1996/1997 season and that was the season Dortmund went on to win the trophy.

Dortmund produced on the night to end a run of 6 straight away defeat in their knockout stage in the Champions League. What a performance and what a tie await us for the second leg.
