📜Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty… The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me *Ruth 1:20-21 (ESV)*
📋The story of Naomi is a pathetic one. She left home with her family when famine came upon the land of Judah. They went out with the hope of making a living but came back empty handed. She lost her husband and two sons. This indeed would be difficult to bear by every human being. When she heard that God had visited their land again, she returned home. One of her daughter’s in-law accompanied her after she failed to dissuade her from following her. When Naomi’s people saw her, they were very excited but she told them, “I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty.” It is very important to note that in spite of all the harrowing experiences Naomi went through, God was still present in her situation—God turned her problems not only for her good, but also for the good of Israel and humanity in general. Ruth, who followed her finally married Boaz, who gave birth to Obed and Obed fathered Jesse and Jesse fathered David, from whom came Jesus Christ. Are you going through challenging moments? Don’t give up! God is present even in his silence. He will come through to bless not only you, but others around you.
