📜As Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons to be judges over Israel…But they were not like their father…They accepted bribes and perverted justice...Finally the leaders of Israel…told him ... ‘You are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king like all the other nations have *1 Samuel 8:1-5 (NLT)*
📋There are really two things you can do with someone else’s mistakes. You can either learn from them, or you can duplicate them. Eli and Samuel were the last of the judges who ruled Israel. Eli earned respect and recognition in public but this did not extend to his handling of his private affairs. His sons brought him grief and ruin. Samuel was raised as priest-in-training by Eli and should have learned the necessity of proper parental discipline from Eli’s failure with his sons. Apparently he did not because his own sons were equally indisciplined. They took bribes and perverted justice. It is unimaginable that Samuel duplicated Eli’s mistake. Samuel’s failure as a parent compelled the elders of Israel to seek to be ruled by kings like the other nations. Samuel was so engaged in ministry that he spent scanty time with his children during their formative years. The result was disastrous. What a father says to his children is not heard by the world. It will be heard by posterity! Does your schedule reflect that your children are a priority in your life?
