📜...he said, ‘Why are you trying to do all this alone?... The job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.… You should continue to be the people’s representative before God…But find some capable people…Appoint them as judges over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty and ten… *Exodus 18: 14-21 (NLT)*
📋Moses’ life experiences both in the court of Pharaoh and Jethro’s home gave him confidence to want to always lead by himself. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. He tended the sheep under Jethro and knew how to guide them. He had previously faced up to the Egyptians as a young man fleeing to Midian. He had recently faced Pharaoh and led the Israelites out of slavery and across the Red Sea under God’s guidance without any intermediaries or assistants. Attending to individual and group concerns, for Moses, was no different once he had the energy and physical strength to cope. When Jethro visited, he observed that Moses spent so much time and energy hearing people’s complaints that he could not attend to more important work. Jethro suggested that Moses should delegate most of the work to others and channel his energy to jobs only he could do. Delegation relieved Moses’ stress, enhanced the quality of government, multiplied effectiveness and gave chance for others to grow. You are a leader wherever you are—home, work, church or school. Do you delegate or always want to do everything yourself?
