*📖FOCUS ON THE CROSS*
👉(Reading: Hebrew 12: 1-6)
🗓Thursday, September 17
📜Looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God *Hebrew 12:2 (RSV)*
📋Disciples are considered as students, apprentices or servants. Disciples go through temporary moments of discipline, focusing on their vision only. The focus text indicates that, disciple makers as well as disciples of Jesus, must look to Jesus who is the pioneer and the perfecter of our faith. We are committed to a cause if our focus is on the end result. Jesus set the best example for us to emulate by focusing on the end result and this enabled him to endure the pain on the cross. The Bible says, “for the joy that was set before him, he endured the pain and the shame of the cross” (v.2b). Commitment to the work of the cross also calls for humility, determination and selflessness. The only way to be committed to the work of the cross is to focus on the example of Jesus. For the scripture says, “looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross.” He pressed on despite all the shame, pain and its associated humiliation which were temporary and focused on that which was permanent. Are you focused and committed to the work of the cross? Then continue to look up to Jesus.
