📜When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they mobilized all their forces …David asked God, ‘Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? The Lord replied, ‘Yes, go ahead. I will give you victory’…But after a while the Philistines returned…David asked God what to do. ‘Do not attack them straight on’, God replied. ‘Instead, circle around them … *1 Chronicles 14:8-14 (NLT)*
📋The Philistines were Israel’s most powerful enemy although David was once considered a friend and an ally (1 Samuel 27; 29). But when David assumed kingship over all Israel they felt threatened and attacked Israel. But before he went to battle, David enquired of God first, asking for his presence and guidance. He fought his battles the way God instructed him. In each instance he first asked if he should fight or not; next he followed instructions carefully and thirdly gave God the glory. In almost every new situation, David prayed for guidance. New developments offer us new challenges as well as new risks. We should seek guidance in each new situation because this will help us avoid unseen dangers. If you seek God’s leading in new circumstances, change won’t appear as a threat but as an opportunity to let God work in new ways. Remember, the way to yesterday’s victory is not the same for today.
