📜Then Abram said to Lot “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are kinsmen. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the lef *Genesis 13:8-9 (RSV)*
📋Discipleship comes from the word discipline and so, disciples and their masters must be committed to discipline. Commitment is the determination of an individual to receive the expected result. The focus text is an example of a master’s discipline and commitment to his disciple. Abram was called to leave his father’s house but he decided to take Lot along with him. I was blessed by a Christian brother who had faith in me and discipled me. One of the key elements of discipleship is selflessness. Abram exhibited this when issues of misunderstanding arose between his herdsmen and that of Lot. He allowed Lot to make the first choice for the sake of peace. Selflessness is one of the prices to pay as we prepare to disciple others. Lot didn’t discipline himself, likewise his herdsmen. There are a lot more of such characters to disciple today. Abram was committed however to maintaining good relationship between himself and Lot. Discipleship without self-discipline and commitment will end in futility. Are you committed to discipling others?
