*📖FIGHTING FOR GREATNESS*

📜At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? *Matthew 18:1 (NIV)*
📋The issue of who will occupy the highest position in the kingdom dominated the minds of Jesus’ disciples. The disciples obviously did not understand the Kingdom Jesus was talking about. When Jesus came and started talking about the Kingdom, they expected him to deliver them from the Romans so that they could form their own government. So they became preoccupied with what positions they could occupy. They went to Jesus to inquire who would become the greatest in his Kingdom. Jesus’s reaction however surprised them. He called a little child and had him stand before them. Then he told them that unless they change and become like little children, they will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. This might have shocked them because Jesus was not talking about positions but rather how to enter into the Kingdom. Jesus was telling them that they should cultivate a childlike attitude in order to enter the Kingdom. Many today, are more interested in holding positions than living a life worthy of the Kingdom. This however does not mean that aspiring for greatness or position is evil. What matters is what we do with the positions we hold. Do we aspire for greatness so as to serve others? Do we do things to glorify God or to present ourselves before others that we are more important than they are?
