📋As believers, we need constant assurance and encouragement as we run the Christian race. The above focus text is Jesus’ reassuring words which he gave to his disciples because being God, he knew that they would feel lonely when the full burden of the work of proclaiming the good news became theirs. He told them that in the world they would have tribulations and face oppositions (John 16:33). But he would not be present with them physically. They would not see his look of encouragement or hear his comforting voice. So, knowing how frail and weak humans are, he encouraged and consoled them with the truth that, he will be with them in the person and power of the Holy Spirit. As effective disciples (people who accepted Christ and are committed to the cross in serving the Lord), we need to rest on his promises and be assured that the Lord is always with us in the deepest of our needs even when the path is dark and lonely. Just as the Lord was with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fury furnace (Daniel 3:25), so he will be with us in our challenges and hardships. Are you feeling lonely and dejected? Look up to Jesus for he has promised never to leave you.
