*📖RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION*

📜Righteousness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any nation *Proverbs 14:34 (GNB)*
📋Proverbs was primarily written for the family of God. God desires that his people will influence society by their way of life. The word righteousness in the focus verse is not here referring to an individual’s right standing with God but to a nation that adheres to God’s righteous standards as found in his moral law. A righteous nation is one characterized by justice and fear of God. In Proverbs 14:26-27, “the fear of the Lord is a secure fortress…(and) a fountain of life” so it is only reverence and obedience that will lead individuals in a nation to walk rightly before God The kinds of leaders and government determine to a large extent a nation’s moral health. To ensure there is justice the laws should not be such that the poor are cheated. Cheating can be when landlords charge exorbitant rents, corruption in various forms and so on. To be a great nation we must abide by God’s law. The scripture says “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker” (v 31) but, “He who is kind to the needy honours God” (v 21). National blessing is promised to a nation that keeps the law (Deuteronomy 28:1-15). If our nation is to continually see progress, we must keep God’s law. What are you doing to ensure ours is a nation of righteousness?
