📜And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation *Revelation 5:9 (NIV)*
📋Once a commodity is purchased it becomes the property of the purchaser. One of the painful historical issues which almost all African-Americans are struggling to forget is the fact that they have lost their roots in their original families in Africa because of the slave trade. Their new owners who purchased them made sure they could not trace their roots back home. The focus text for today portrays a similar example to us as Christians: You and I as well as believers from every tribe, language, and nation were purchased with the blood of Jesus. This implies that you are no more your own, neither do you belong to your old sinful master. Now, you are owned by Jesus Christ who purchased you with his blood. You have a new Master and a new life. As Christians we are expected to be guided daily by this fact that we can’t claim ownership of ourselves by saying, “I can do what pleases me.” Do you know you have been purchased at a high price and for that matter you do not own your life? Submit yourself totally to your Master.
