📜For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live *Romans 8:13 (NIV)*
📋Our gracious God wants to spare us the serious consequences of sin, so he admonishes us to make the right choices in life. For instance, in Deuteronomy 30:19, he cautions the Israelites, “This day … I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” But the Israelites chose death by disobeying God and suffered severe consequences. In today’s focus verse, God sets before us life and death: “if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” The choices are clear. We can choose between either yielding to the desires of the sinful nature or resisting them through God’s Spirit. Those who yield manifest the works of the flesh such as sexual immorality, hatred, envy, lying, selfish ambition and drunkenness (Galatians 5:19). These lead to eternal death. So, the wise choice is to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit to always say “No” to the desires of the flesh. By this choice, we will live eternally with God. Have you made that choice? Choose life, not death.
