College today was so hectic for us all most especially me because I happened to be one of the group coordinator in my department.

We were busy having practicals on the production of liquid soaps.

It's a program termed "SWEP" organized by the government to be run through some Nigerian universities. It is 6-8 weeks program set aside for Nigerian undergraduates to provide them with industrial skills, training and needed experience matching their course of study. After which at the end of the program, each student are meant to defend their training skills acquired from the program and likewise be presented a certificate for it.

Varieties of invigilators from different institutes came over to inspect, monitor and ensure the smooth running of the program across all levels of department in my college. The program do last six (6) hours per day within the stipulated time of 9am-3pm everyday for eight (8) good weeks.

There we were made to explore more in industrial trainings on production of substances electronically, chemically and mechanically.

So far today, we dealt with the production of liquid soaps. We had a mixture of different chemicals to produce it including acids too. It really went fine and we learnt varieties of lessons.

I could remember before the commencement of the program, some safety precautions were stated by our invigilators to avoid hazard to any student in the laboratory. Some of which I could remember are stated below:

1. Always ensure to put on your protective wears before entering the laboratory or performing any operation in the laboratory. Examples of those protective wears are the laboratory coats, nose masks, face shields or eye glasses, safety shoes, hand gloves etc. It's necessary to have all this on to prevent spillage of chemicals on the body surfaces.

2. Read, meditate and follow owners manual. This means adhering to guided instructions and directives of laboratory apparatuses and instruments by their manufacturers. To avoid wrong use of the instruments which might cause severe damage to the body.

Today was fun though hectic too. But, I enjoyed the fun aspect most as we learn new things we lack the ideas of. And those invigilators look so friendly and admiring. They spent their time cheering us up to avoid boredom.

To crown it all, today was really splendid. And at long run, I didn't regret to be part of the program.
