Here we list 5 new, weird and highly wasteful ways to generate rewards in cryptocurrencies:

1. Get Bitcoin for listening to a podcast

Receiving Bitcoin in exchange for listening to your favorite podcast is already a possibility. That's precisely what Fountain offers , a podcast streaming app designed to support content creators. Listeners are rewarded in bitcoins for consuming content while podcasters are rewarded for generating it.

Additionally, platform users can also receive satoshis for recording and sharing unique audios with their friends, as well as listening to advertisements. It is not the only one: services such as Decibel and Current Media are also exploring this concept to offer users rewards in tokens for their attention when listening to music, radio or when streaming content.

Meanwhile, the popular video app YouTube is not entirely oblivious to this idea, and has already announced that it is exploring technologies such as Web3 and NFTs to provide creators with more monetization alternatives. Who knows, in the future, earning money by consuming audiovisual content could be the new rule.

2. Going out on a date in search of… cryptocurrencies?

Going out on a date is no longer a matter of love. Having a romantic encounter or interacting socially with other people are now activities that can be beneficial, not only for the mind and body, but also for the pocketbook.

A new group of apps is exploring the idea of giving users token rewards for taking risks to find love, date and even have sex. One example of this is Tindearn , an app that bills itself as the first Date-To-Earn and promises crypto gifts for meeting people. Lovers can also send each other tokens as a form of courtship.

The Datingverse and Sexn platforms go even further. The former offers a virtual environment for people to go on dates in the metaverse in the form of avatars in exchange for earning tokens,  while the latter can reward you in digital currency for having sex and masturbating  (because nothing is sexier than crypto). Still in the early stages of development, these apps seem to paint a future where love and dating might be less disappointing.

3. Dance, run, jump - move and win!

Move-To-Earn , or " move to win ", is possibly the most popular evolved version of Play-to-Earn . Similar to its predecessor, the reward model proposes something simple: perform physical activities in exchange for earning a token . The trend mixes the dynamics of fitness applications based on step counters, with the trend of NFTs and P2E.

Apps like Stepn , Sweatcoin , and Wirtual are among the growing list of new M2E services that promise to pay users to jog, jump, bike, dance, and engage in various forms of physical exercise . Sounds pretty good, in theory, but in many cases making money can involve upfront spending, as some of these platforms require their users to own expensive NFT digital sneakers before they start exercising.

4. Sleeping has never been so pleasant

But if you don't want to move, it doesn't matter. The laziest can also be paid with cryptocurrencies for the simple fact of resting. As curious as it sounds, “ sleep to win ”, or Sleep-To-Earn , is also an existing model. Apps like SleeFi, SLEEPEE and MetaGym  offer token reward systems to their users for sleeping.

The idea behind seems to be the same as P2E: motivate people to have a healthier lifestyle; in that case with physical exercise, in this case, with enough hours of sleep. Connected to the mobile, and possibly to other devices such as a smartwatch , these platforms track the sleep patterns of each user to reward them based on their rest.

Similar to others on this list, the model may sound attractive but, in practice, it could be less profitable than it promises. In any case, it seems like an idea with future potential. (Sleep has never been so restful before - for my wallet).

5. Learning is also beneficial

If you are one of those who surf the Internet for hours and accumulate a lot of tabs reading about the most curious data, this option to earn crypto could be for you. The Learn-To-Earn model , which is not a tongue twister and in Spanish translates as “ learn to earn ”, has a simple idea behind it: reward people for learning about cryptocurrencies.
