Both male circumcision and facial tribal marks are very painful procedures. They are carried out when a child is tender and young in a bid to mitigate the pain as well as its healing process. The older a child grow, the more painful and difficult it would become.
In Africa, the slave trade gave birth to the incision of facial tribal marks primarily for tribal identification and classification .It was a source of pride at that time, even though it is now hard for the current generation to identify with such a barbaric, painful and detective practice in the name of fashion.
Civilization eventually overtook that vicious practice although there are still traces of this facial scarification in some parts of Africa .
If an attempt was made to carry out facial tribal marks on an adult for whatever reason, it would be accompanied with extreme agony and discomfort.
Facial tribal marks inscribed on an adult takes longer time to heal and may lead to keloids or become darker than other parts of the face rather than being smooth and neat. Victims of this practice sometimes develop low self esteem as they feel ugly and unattractive.
