The first metro rail journey has started in Pakistan. The 'Orange Line' metro rail was inaugurated in Lahore on Sunday. However, passenger transport has started from Monday. The State Railway Group of China has implemented the project. It will take 45 minutes to travel from the north and south of Lahore by 26.1 km. There are 26 stations on this route, two of which are underground. The fare for the Orange Line Metrorail has been fixed at Rs 40.
The government of the country hopes that if the metro rail is launched at full capacity, it will be possible to transport 245,000 passengers daily. Seven thousand local people had job opportunities during this project. It will provide employment opportunities for two thousand people.
This is the largest technical project in Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative and the CPEC plan.
