Creating Data Privacy and Localization Law

The government is enacting the Data Privacy and Localization Act by determining the data category. State Minister for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said this in a webinar on Friday night.

He was the chief guest at the webinar on 'Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Privacy' at the 15th Annual General Meeting of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF).

Palak said that while digital technology has made life easier, it has also created some risks. Data is an important asset, personal and commercial interchangeability and privacy must be guarded by determining data categories. Advising everyone to be careful about the data, the state minister said, "Everyone is being hacked in one way or another."

"We need to have a clear guideline on which of the 100 million digital IDs we have can be passed on to private companies and which information cannot be shared with anyone due to privacy concerns," he said. That is why a strategy or policy on blockchain and artificial intelligence, robotics has already been formulated, ”he said.

An initiative has been taken to enact a Data Privacy and Localization Law under the direction of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, IT Adviser to the Prime Minister, he said, adding that it is now in the draft stage. In a short time, the views of experts including Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum, various platforms and media will be raised in the National Assembly.

BTRC Director General Brigadier General Mostafa Kamal, Director General of Digital Security Agency Md. Hasanul Haque Inu, President of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum and Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information also addressed the seminar. Rezaul Karim, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir and Director of National Data Center Bangladesh Computer Council Tareq M Barkat Ullah.
