Vidya Balan ([ʋɪd̪jaː baːlən]; born January 1, 1986) is an Indian model and film actress. He has made a career in Bollywood films as well as acted in Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi language films. He has won several awards in his acting career, including one National Film Award, five Filmfare Awards and five Screen Awards. In 2014, he was awarded the country's fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
He became involved with the film at a young age and made his acting debut in 1995 with Hum Panch Hindi Sitcom. He holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Mumbai and failed in various professions before starting his career in film. Later, after working in various television commercials and music videos, in 2003, he acted in the first full-length film through the well-known independent Bengali film. In 2005, she played the role of Lalita in the romantic drama Parineeta, her first Hindi film, and the following year in 2006 she played the lead role in the romantic drama Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which was a box office success.
Following this success, she starred in the romantic films Ramya Hey Baby (2006) and Kismat Connection (2007), which garnered her negative criticism. The biggest success of Vidya's career started in 2009 with her performance in the film Pa Natya. He followed suit in the 2010 black comedy Ishqiya, the 2011 semi-biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica, the biographical film The Dirty Picture, and the 2012 thriller Kahani. All these characters made her a leading actress in Hindi films. She later starred in the sequel to the story, Story 2: Durga Rani Singh. Although the film was not a commercial success, Vidya's performance was praised. In 2016, he played a central role in the commercially acclaimed comedy-drama Tumhari Sulu as a radio jockey.
Vidya has been involved in philanthropic activities as well as acting in films and has contributed as a helper for the employment of women. Initially she had to face various criticisms due to her heavy body and questionable clothing selection. She married film producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor in 2012. In 2016, he became a member of the Central Film Certification Board of India.
