Palm tree

Palm tree is one of the tree I admires alot, I love the height and the way it blows breeze at night. Palm tree take 3-4 years before it is ready to start producing fruit and oil. During those years before harvest, the farmer won't just sit and wait for the tree to germinate on its own,it takes process requiring energy and money at the same time.

The seedling is first planted in a bowl or polythene nylon for few months after it is then transfered to a well fertilized field and here is where the works begins, it is constantly monitored, the weeds around it are properly wiped off, more fertilizer is applied to the plant, it requires the right amount of sunlight and rain and during the dry season, it is adequately sprayed with water to avoid loss of nutrients and strength, it is kept away from pest and parasite thereby making the field well fenced to avoid them. And after the palm plant has grown enough to be called tree, then it is full ready for harvest.

The botanical or scientific name for palm tree is Arecaceae. Palm tree has alot of uses. Their is a liquid when Pierce the top inner part of the tree, it bring out palm wine, it is a drink that is well served well chilled with any kind of meal, it can also be fermented and chilled after. Same palm tree has fruit called palm kernel, it can be cook and eaten raw, it can be used to produce palm oil, the shaft is used to ignite firewood for cooking, the nut is used to produce cooking oil, the hard cover is used to cook. The paste that comes out from palm kernel when mixed with some substance it is a remedy for stretch marks.

The palm front is used for decorations, it's is used as roofing, when shaved it can be used as broom, the residue can also be used to ignite fire. The bark of the tree also serves a herb. The whole tree serves as an avenue for ventilation and it also resist the hardazious effect of the wind to the surroundings, the upper part of the tree can also be used to trap birds and some animals. It also serve as beautification for the field where it is planted.
