Manhattan. The heart of New York City and one of the world's leading economic, business, cultural and tourist destinations. Consists of five boroughs. The main borough of New York City is Manhattan. Each borough can be compared with each police station in Dhaka metropolis. The other four boroughs are Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.
Geographically, Manhattan can be called an island. Because it is surrounded by rivers and seas. Harlem River to the north, New York Bay to the south, East River to the east and Hudson River to the west. The area of Manhattan is about 60 square kilometers or about 31 square miles.
According to history, in 1524, the Italian sailor Giovanni da Verazzano was the first white man to come to Manhattan. Earlier, indigenous Indians lived here. From 185 to 1890, New York City was the capital of the United States. The first stock exchange was established in 1892 in Manhattan. Since then, Manhattan has become a hub for business and financial transactions. The mayors of this city have always claimed New York as the capital of the world and the headquarters of this capital is Manhattan. In 1890 its population was 33,131 and in 2000 it was 15,36,195. There is no country in the world whose people are not in Manhattan.
Manhattan is basically divided into three parts. Lower Manhattan or Downtown, Midtown and Uptown. Lower Manhattan is the main economic and business center. It is the headquarters of all the world's leading financial and business organizations. So another name for Lower Manhattan is the Financial District. Here is the world-famous Wall Street, where the New York Stock Exchange is located. Founded in 1892, the New York Stock Exchange is the world's largest stock and bond market. The stock market has about 3,750 companies listed and has a capital of about ১২ 12 trillion. There is also the American Stock Exchange, City Hall (Mayor's Office), and the World Financial Center. The Twin Towers, which were destroyed on September 11, 2001, were here. One of the attractions of Lower Manhattan is Chinatown. When tourists come here, don't forget to eat Chinese in Chinatown.
Fifth Avenue is one of the streets here, with all the dazzling shopping malls. This avenue is again accused by many of being a museum. Because, there are rows upon rows of museums here. New York City is known to have about 250 museums of different tastes and subjects. And most of it is in Manhattan. Recognized as the largest art center in the world, the city has about 400 art galleries. And so this Manhattan is a pilgrimage center for painters, art lovers, art connoisseurs, art collectors and art dealers. Most art galleries are located in the Madison Avenue and Soho area of Manhattan. The Soho area is also known as the abode of same-sex (gay and lesbian) couples. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was established in 180. The museum has a collection of all the world's art forms and cultures. The collection of this museum has about 3 million items. Its collection is so extensive that its 300 galleries and 32-acre floor can simultaneously display only one-fifth of its contents. It is the third largest art museum in the world. It is next to the British Museum in London and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Another museum is the Museum of Modern Art, which houses the most valuable paintings of the twentieth century world. The museum was established in 1929. In the case of its collection, the work of the artists who were born after 180 years has been given priority.
The American Museum of Natural History was established in 189. It is one of the world's leading natural science museums, home to many rare collections of dinosaur bones, including fossils.
Other notable museums are the Whitney Museum of America, The Freak Collection, the Solomon Guzenheim Museum, the International Center for Photography, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Jewish Museum. Apart from this, there are museums on various subjects like police, sea port, aircraft etc. There are museums based on the culture of countries like Egypt, Asian Art, Russia, Africa etc.
Manhattan's Broadway is a worldwide attraction for professional drama, music and dance. There are so many different tastes and variations served here, so many people enjoy it, so much revenue is generated that it can only be compared to London theaters. The Lincoln Center on Broadway is the largest performing arts center in the world. Throughout the year, cultural groups from all over the world come here. The Rockefeller Center (1931), with its magnificent architectural style of 10 large and small buildings, is another such center. Madison Square Center (1984) is basically an indoor stadium. Every day of the year there is one or another event. The Jacob Zavit Convention Center is a huge permanent indoor exhibition center. National and international level exhibitions continue here throughout the year.
Many famous universities of the world are located in Manhattan. Some of these are the traditional Columbia University, City University of New York, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Arts, Fordham University, New York University, Pais.
