Watching “The Devil Wears Prada” made me realized how business occurs. I am really amazed and impressed on how Miranda Priestly managed Runaway and how she instills fear and intimidation to her workers. For Andrea Sachs, she totally chooses to be a secretary rather than to be a writer in a magazine. Andrea eventually leaves her alluring job in exchange of personal happiness. Her story though is one of the many exemplars of hope despite the overwhelming challenges one may have encountered.
The story starts when Andrea, whose greatest dream is to become a journalist, lands in a Runway magazine as the editor in chief’s assistant. Miranda, her cruel and merciless boss makes the aspiring assistant a living hell experience. Andrea was still great in doing her job even though Miranda was giving her a hard time, especially at the time when she asked for unpublished manuscript of Harry Potter. I also appreciate to Nigel’s motivation to Andrea because he made an effort to change her image to fit in more on the workplace she’s in.
In this story, reminds me that basically, one cannot live by his own without affecting the lives of others. It referred here is the people influencing one another; it may be for bad or for good ends. Andrea learned a lot about the industry and also from Miranda. She starts an image of a girl who is out-of-fashioned changes into a beautiful, sexy and smart girl to adapt with her pressured jobs, which tends to against herself. Instead of insisting favorite clothes making her comfortable and showing her identity, Andrea wears fashionably and luxuriously. Andrea knows that she lost her personality and her true happiness. She decides to quit her admirable job in order to work in a place where she can be herself: smart, self-confident, generous and frugal. It is a happy ending for her when she gets both a good job and happiness.
Devil Wears Prada depicts into the inner workings of organizations which are complex that consist of a group of people, who work together. Analyzing how the characters, as individuals and groups, interact with one another allows from an understanding of how people think, feel and act within the organization. The organization consists of people who are potential for creativity, diversity, teamwork, exploration and success however it has also dangerous and unhealthy practices which affects within the organization or the individuals within the organization as well.
