Dogecoin (DOGE) is a cryptocurrency created on Litecoin in "a few hours" (so says the creator himself). It is named after the famous Internet meme Doge. The date of its appearance is December 8, 2013.

Doge is an Internet meme that originated in 2010 after a Japanese kindergarten teacher published photos of his rescue dog, Shiba Inu, Kabose. One of the photos became an Internet phenomenon, and the Internet soon turned it into a meme, adding captions such as "lots of wow" and "so happy" to photos of Shiba Inu dogs. The meme lives on in Dogecoin, where users often share information about the coin using similar captions.

Dogecoin was created by Portland programmers Billy Marcus and Jackson Palmer on December 6, 2013.

It is based on Litecoin currency. The authors wanted to make DOGE available to everyone, as opposed to Bitcoin.

The Dogecoin network was originally intended for a maximum issue of 100,000,000,000 Dogecoins, but then that limit was lifted.

On May 6, 2014, DogeCoin users raised funds for another high-profile PR campaign. This time, DogeCoin fans sponsored a car at a Nascar race. For just $55,000, the DOGE logo was displayed on national TV for several hours during the race broadcasts.

After Jackson Palmer left the company in 2015, there were long rumors about the death of DOGE, but thanks to a strong community and decentralization, DOGE still exists today.

Today, DOGEcoin is a cryptocurrency with a large community that repeatedly participates in fundraising for charity and supporting sports teams from poor underdeveloped countries.

Yes dogecoin is the most popular in crypto. Last year it reached the height of a mountain. But since then it has been on a steady downward trend. I have bought some Dogecoin. But many are bought at up prices. For which I am at a lot of loss.
