Ekushey February: Ekushey February is Bangladesh's Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. Involved with this is the history of the long cultural struggle of the Bengalis. On this day in 1952, the processionists violated Section 144 by demanding to make Bengali the state language. Rafiq, Salam, Barkat, Jabbar and many others were martyred when the police opened fire on them. As a result of this self-sacrifice and long struggle, Bengali was recognized as the state language in 1954.
