There existed a time in the history of man when gold was King and whoever had it was reverenced. Then the world developed and we moved on to Fiat or paper money. Like we all know, change is the only constant variable and soon power changed hands and we had the scuffle for oil which is referred to as Black gold. But we all know that in this 21st century we currently are, Data is the new gold, he who possesses the data can sell it for whatever price he chooses to the right party. Hence it is no surprise why many tech giants have been embroiled in one Data scandal or the other.
The Facebook Data Scandal of recent 2018 is still rather fresh on everyone’s mind, the way millions of users’ data was harvested and put to malicious use, and then we had the issue this month of WhatsApp and their privacy policy that gave them privy and access to sensitive information. This finally pushed many to the realization that these social media platforms do not care about the users privacy and security of their information. With topics like these continually rearing its head, it points to the fact that the centralized big boys are only in it for their gains and pockets. That is why we can begin to look towards Blockchain technology as the solution, for truly private networks and platforms that have the users at heart.
With names like Status in the fray we can begin to hope that finally there might be a level of privacy accorded to users’ data. With their state-of-the-art technology, users can be sure of decentralization, censorship resistance and security. There has been the growth of other Messaging platforms with the news of the WhatsApp privacy scandal, chief among them has been Telegram and Signal, and we have seen both platforms add record numbers of users to their platforms.
But both of them pale in comparison to what Status has to offer. Not only does Status enable private and encrypted messaging which is fully decentralized, it also comes with an inbuilt wallet that allows you to store your ERC-20 tokens. So you have the comfort of a messaging app and a wallet all in one place. It also comes with a browser that allows you to access latest Web 3 DApps, pretty cool stuff if you ask me. Been using it for a while and its one I’m never shy to talk about.
Status is one name I’m tipping to be here for the long run, because the search for more privacy-centric apps is one that will continue for a very long time to come and though we will see continued enhancements none will be as secure and safe as one that is hosted on a Blockchain. Status brings forth the dream of freedom of speech, decentralization and privacy all embodied in one app.
