A study from the University of Oxford found that food production was responsible for a quarter of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, this food production is one of the main reasons behind global warming.

However, researchers have found that the environmental effects of different foods vary.

Many environmentally conscious people have now dropped the use of plastic bags and plastic straws. Trying to recycle your belongings as much as possible, so that the temperature can be reduced by a few degrees.

But have you ever wondered how much your weekly market can change the world?

BBC Radio Five aired a detailed documentary on the subject during their Cool Planet season.

There they tried to find out how small changes in our daily market could have a big impact on our planet.

My Burners Lee, a professor at Lancaster University, went shopping. He specializes in climate change and sustainable food security.

Examples of a few foods come to mind when shopping.

Meat and fish

Most people eat fish meat at home. Especially on holidays. Think about how much grilled chicken, sausage, noodles, etc. are eaten for dinner on those special days of the week?

Professor Berners-Lee says beef is the world's highest carbon producer.

He said chickens are relatively good for the environment. He also said, "It is much easier to produce all kinds of meat than to produce vegetables. It does not require time and labor like farming."

About fish, Professor Berners-Lee advised to reduce fish consumption. For example, limit eating to fish once or twice a week instead of every day.

And trying to eat different kinds of fish every time.

But the best way is to become a vegetarian. If you are thinking of becoming a vegetarian, there is nothing to worry about. You can’t skip, at least reducing the amount of meat you eat can make a great start.

If you have a habit of eating meat every day, choose only one day a week when you will not eat any meat. These small changes will have a big impact on the environment.

A study published in 2016 found that the amount of greenhouse gases could be reduced by more than half if we could all reduce the amount of red meat we eat at once a week.

Fruits and vegetables:

Fruits and vegetables are the best and most sustainable food of all time. However, Professor Berners-Lee thinks there are some exceptions.

"If the fruit or vegetable you have comes to you in a season other than that season, then ask yourself before you eat it, how did it get here?"

"If those fruits and vegetables look very fresh, you can assume that they are not from your country. They have been imported from abroad in various ways.

Either it came by water or by air. And these transports have emitted a lot of carbon. Hundreds of tons of fuel are burned on a single flight of an aircraft. The same is true of boats.

If you still want to eat winter fruits after the winter is over, the best way is to store those fruits and vegetables frozen.

Professor Berners-Lee says: "Food stays fresh and delicious for a long time when frozen."

However, the question of carbon emissions remains. Because carbon is also emitted from the refrigerator.

Apples and raspberries.

But Professor Berners-Lee says the amount of carbon emitted from the fridge is not alarming.

Again, there are many vegetables that are harvested for twelve months which are responsible for high carbon emissions. Such as young broccoli.

We always assume that it is like all other broccoli. But in fact, this particular type of broccoli emits huge amounts of carbon.

Because most of the broccoli in the world comes by air from different countries.

Flowers:

If you love flowers very much and buy a bunch of flowers from time to time to make the day colorful. Then you can bring some change in the case of buying those flowers.

Everyone's favorite rose or lily flower usually comes in the market in two ways. Firstly through warm house production and secondly by importing by air. Again, there may be two issues.

In this case you can buy pottery plant or tub tree. Or you can wait until the flowering season. When you get fresh flowers produced in the country.

Golden Rules:

Professor Mike Berners-Lee has talked about some golden rules in terms of environmental awareness. These are:

To have the greatest impact on preventing climate change, reduce the intake of meat and dairy foods. These two types of foods are the least effective in meeting the demand for protein. But these foods are the main cause of carbon footprint.

If you do not want to be completely meat-free, you can choose chicken or fish instead of beef or mutton. However, care must be taken that none of the chickens and fish are produced on the farm.

Eat everything you buy. Do not waste any food. So before going to the weekly market, take a good look at the fridge and kitchen. As if you can understand and buy.

The market often attracts the attention of buyers by showing off all the chic offers. You will never be tempted to see all this. It is important to know how much you need, rather than how low the price is.

The more fruits and vegetables you eat, the better. But make sure that what you are eating is a seasonal fruit / vegetable. If it is not food produced in that season and if the food still looks fresh, then it must be assumed that it has been imported by air or sea.

 Store your favorite food in the refrigerator for later consumption. Don't eat imported food.
