How much can you carry?

A few days ago I ran into Precious and we just got talking. A very beautiful and lively lady with an electric vibe. There's never a boring second with Precious, I dunno if her blood is filled with laughing gas because she's always smiling and it's so contagious. After a lot of back and forth filled with "how have you beens", "what have you been doings" and "I've missed yous", she finally asked if I had movies.

At first I was surprised. I don't know if you're like me and most of your contacts' status is filled with a lot motivational posts and serious activities. It just seems as if everyone is making moves with their lives and I'm not, and Precious is one of them. So when she asked if I had movies, I thought "is she trying to mock me that I'm jobless or she's just one of us who don't have an online business to run?" well, either way I answered in the affirmative and she brought out her phone to get the movies.

And that's where the real motivation for this article was triggered. Normally if Precious wants to collect anything with her phone (even if it's a 10kb document), she'd have to wipe her phone 10 times in order to release memory and then delete tons of other files to create space for the new entrances. So you can imagine my shock when she just swiped open her phone and launched her Xender app within seconds with a flip of the finger.

"ah, Nawa o, so even Precious don buy new phone" I thought. Then I grabbed the phone to be sure, and it wasn't a new phone. "what happened to your phone"? I asked. Sharp girl that she is, she burst out laughing understanding what I really meant "you dey craze" she lashed back. "nothing do my phone, I just increased the memory capacity from 8gb to 32gb. Then I moved all my files to the external card and released the phone memory. So now I have a bigger capacity".

So just like that, a phone that we used to make a mockery of has just transformed with the simple act of increasing its carrying capacity. It's now able to carry more responsibilities. Now the owner isn't afraid of allocating more responsibilities to it.

The same thing applies to our individual lives. It's filled with opportunities and responsibilities and the only way to fulfill our purpose is to match the right opportunities with our abilities.

Many times we wonder why our friends, family and acquaintances don't recommend or link us to some kind of opportunities. We tend to forget that for the most part it is about what they see in us and has seen us carry. No one will give you more than they believe you can carry.

Our lives are like that mobile phone, we can only be allocated responsibilities based on our capacities. You can't fill a 10litre gallon with with 20 litre worth of water, it'll either waste or the gallon will burst. Everything in and about our lives starts with us.

Whether you're a 9-5 worker or maybe you're an entrepreneur or freelancer. In that your line of work, have you taken the time to learn newer trends and build larger capacity or you still believe that the old ways are the best?

It's another weekend, don't just chill, read a new book, expand on that skill, learn new tricks and develop yourself more. For when your capacity increases, it will show in the way you talk, write, communicate and even in the way you walk, then you won't have to go looking for opportunities, but opportunities will come looking for you.
