(USA, 1878-1930) Rival to the Wright Brothers Curtiss made the first public flight in the USA on 4 July 1908. He set up the first aeroplane manufacturing company in the USA.
Amelia Earhart(USA, 18981937) (not to mention she looks like the main character in resident evil)
The first woman to fly the Atlantic. She went on to establish many flying records but disappeared during an attempt to fly round the world.

America's first female pilot On 16 April 1912 she was the first woman to fly the English Channel -but on the day the sinking of the Titanic was reported, so her triumph was barely noticed
