Amazonian Giant Centipede or Peruvian giant yellow-leg centipede, this creature is one of the largest centipedes of the genus Scolopendra with a length of up to 30 centimetres(12 inches). This creature naturally found in Northern South America. This giant centipede can be found in tropical and sub-tropical rainforest and tropical dry forest.
This creature is a carnivore that feeds or can eat other animals that can kill by them. They are capable of overpowering not only other invertebrates such as large spiders, insects, scorpions, millipedes and even tarantulas, but also they can overpower some small vertebrates like lizards, snakes, frogs, sparrows, mice, bats. Some of these large creatures have a strategies in catching bats which they climb on the ceilings of cave and hold their heavier prey with only a few legs attached on the ceiling.
In 2014, a four year old child from Venezuela died because of the centipede bite. Researchers at Universidad de Oriente later confirmed the specimen to be S. Gigantea.
Even these creatures was amazing because of their physical appearance and their strategies in catching their prey. We should avoid them when we see them in nature, because these creatures can give danger in our lives.
