It is time to go back to school and for your children to start this new school year on the right foot, certain criteria must be taken into account for the first day of school.

Portfolios, homework, teachers, classmates, everything returns to normal after the holiday season, but what does this mean for boys and girls?

It is important to understand that vacations have allowed the change of certain habits, both eating and sleeping, as well as in discipline and schedules, so it is necessary to adjust little by little, before the long-awaited and at the same time so dreaded back to school day. A super important factor that we must not forget is to take the necessary biosecurity care, taking care of ourselves is a priority for everyone.

Therefore, in this return to classes we must prepare them for this elementary moment for them and take into account that the first days are always decisive for their school performance throughout the year.

Going back to school involves a lot of uncertainty and stress for several reasons:

  • If it is the first time they go to school, the suspicion is total, especially due to the separation of the parents, the fear of an alleged abandonment, ignorance of what an educational system is, and the fact of not knowing who will be their teacher or classmates.

  • If they return to a new school year, meeting the new teacher and thinking about what their relationship with them will be like and the estrangement of the previous teacher.

  • The excitement of brand new backpacks, uniforms, books and all kinds of school supplies that will show off to others.

  • Frequent aversion to homework.

We suggest the following action plan:

  • Talk to them about the importance of back to school and set a challenge for that new school year.

  • Listen carefully to their fears, doubts, interests, and expectations and guide them respectfully at all times.

  • Host a special family dinner the day before or after the first day, serving her favorite dish.

  • Prepare your child her favorite dessert for when she gets home from the stress of the first day.

  • Put something familiar in her backpack, that makes her feel more comfortable, and at the same time, something new that makes her feel special.

  • It must be remembered that children will be in school for many years and that this should be a healthy and enjoyable stage of learning and not one of anxiety and fear.

Despite the fact that since last year we have been in quarantine for covid-19 and we return to our normal life and that is how we are, we must encourage and take advantage of creating study habits for our children.
