I have just completed 30 cryotherapy sessions and wanted to share my experience with you all. When I first started I was promised that my metabolic rate would increase so I'd lose weight and also feel boosted overall. I paid over $70 per session (full body cryo) and I want to give everyone a few tips in case you ever need to do it.
1. I found out during my last week that in the later hours of the day, as the chamber has been used by other people, the 'cold' effect gets weaker. The operators will not admit this, if you complain that you don't feel as cold as before they will insist everything is fine, tell you that "you're getting used to the cold" and they will also point to the chamber temperature (-130). Since they couldn't do anything I tried something else. For the last 7 days I always booked the first spot of the day to make sure that I was the first one to use the chamber for the day. Fortunately this worked, the chill effect this way was always as strong as the first time. I wish I had known this earlier because I feel like I wasted 3 weeks. So I highly recommend if you buy a bundle of sessions to make sure that each session is spaced out by at least 1h from those of other people. If this is not possible then try to always book the first available spot in each day.
2. I'm fit and had been struggling to lose an additional 1-2 lbs, which makes a huge difference for me. I decided to try cryo because I blamed my slow metabolism for not being able to lose that extra weight regardless of how hard I exercised. In the end, during my cryo month, my weight kept fluctuating and in the end my weight hasn't changed at all. So I'd not recommend cryo if you're looking to lose weight.
3. I did experience an emotional boost. This period has been very stressful for me at home and these sessions were a gift from a relative to help me feel better. I have to say that every day after cryo my mood improved considerably and I was much less likely to get in an argument with anyone.
4. My skin condition improved, I have some skin issues this time of the year but for the past month doing cryo I didn't experience any skin issues whatsoever. No pimples, no acne, nothing. I think this was the only tangible result I saw aesthetically.
5. Was it worth it? Considering the price I think the answer for me is no, but if you've a job and can afford it then if you have skin issues or a stressful lifestyle I'd recommend it.
Please let me know if you have tried cryotherapy as well and what your experience was.
