> Babur first heard the story of Timur's conquest of Delhi from an old lady and himself became interested in its conquest.

> After being defeated in the Battle of Gazdawan, Babur realised that it was impossible for him to conquer Samarkhand.

Babur later recorded that his opponent Ibrahim Lodi was an inexperienced young man, who fought recklessly at Panipat with no strategy or farsightedness.

To gain complete control over North India, Babur had to wage two more wars against the Rajputs of Mewar and the Afghans of Eastern India, since his victory at Panipat was not sufficient.
