There is a tall iron pillar near the Qutb Minar in Delhi. An inscription is engraved on its body. It describes the victory of a powerful King, namely Chandra, who was a devotee of Vishnu. There is no date on the pillar. Nor is there any specific mention of who that king Chandra was. Most probably this inscription is from the 5th century A.D. This king Chandra is generally considered to be Chandragupta II. The inscription also belongs to his era. Moreover Chandragupta II was also a devotee of Vishnu. However despite many similarities, Chandragupta II had not conquered all the areas mentioned in the inscription. Much of that description is imaginary.
