There is an inscription inside the Allahabad fort. This Sanskrit inscription is composed in the Brahmi script of the Gupta period. The inscription was found in Kaushambi village of Allahabad. At a later date, Mughal emperor Akbar had recovered and persevered it inside the Allahabad fort. A Prashasti is engraved in that inscription. It is composed by Harisena. He was the court poet of emperor Samudragupta. The inscription praises different qualities of Samudragupta. His wars and victories, conquest of kingdoms etc. are recorded in that Prashasti. It is composed in both prose and verse. Though only the achievements of Samudragupta have been recorded in the Inscription it's importance is immense as a source of the history of the Gupta rule.
