Megalith is a tomb of memorial of big Stones. In ancient India the correlation can be found between the uses of iron and building of such tombs. Many local communities used big stones for tombs of their respective family members. variations can be seen in these tombs which are marked by big stones. somewhere there is a big stone facing the sky somewhere stones are found arranged in a circle. in some places one big stone is used to cover many small stones. at other places would have taken place in caves carved out of mountains. from these tombs human skeletons and articles of daily use have been recovered. Burzahom in Kashmir bharatpur in Rajasthan and inamgaon are famous megalithic sites. however most of these monuments of big stone are found in southern India. in these places, black or red earthern utensils, other objects made up of stone and terracotta iron goods gold silver and copper wire have been found. bones of horses and other animals, fish bones etc have also been discovered. difference in used items give evidence of existence of social division between rich and poor in societies. tombs of members of same family have been found in the same place.
