Towards the end of Chandra Gupta Mauryas reign, there was a famine in North East India. At that time many Jain saints left North East India and moved towards the Deccan. That departure had created to sects skiing the Jains. Bhadrabahu and his followers had migrated to the South. He was a staunch believer in the path of vardhaman Mahavira, bhadrabahu and his followers did not wear any gaements. This is why they are known as Digambaras. On the other hand, stulabhadra was the leader of the Justin saints who had stayed back in North India. Like parshavanath he was in favour of wearing white clothes. This community had come to be known as shwetembara Jains.
