A breakaway from the Earth: origin of the Moon:

It was earlier believed that the Earth and the Moon used to be one body called Earth Moon. But part of it got detached in the distant past and formed the Moon. So the Earth was regarded as the parent body of the Moon. But now it had been accepted by most scientists that the sun as well as all the planets and their satellites were formed from the same Nebula.
