World War 3 or not
Hello everyone, it's been a really long time since I posted any articles, there's has been so much on my plate lately. Now that there is a one month strike for all Public Universities nationwide thanks to the constant FG-ASUU disagreement. The strike could get worse if their demands are not met within this one month and it may become an indefinite strike.
Anyways we're not going to be discussing about that one today, it's already old news. The trending topic that has been in discussion around the world is the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military. Many people around the world have started to believe this could be the start of another World war.
Taking a look at this crisis from the very beginning, the Russo-Ukrainian war is actually a protracted conflict that started since February 2014, which primarily involved Russia, Ukraine and separatist forces. The war as of that time was centred around the territories of Crimea and some parts of Donbas, which are internationally recognised as part of Ukraine. In March 2014, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation unanimously adopted a resolution to petition Russian President Vladimir Putin to use military force in Ukraine, as they wanted Crimea to become part of Russia territory.
The involvement of the Russian military backing the separatists was seen as responsible for the defeat of Ukrainian forces in early September 2014. The majority of member nations of the international community and organizations such as Amnesty International have condemned Russia for its actions in post-revolutionary Ukraine, accusing it of breaking international law and violating Ukrainian sovereignty. Many countries implemented economic sanctions against Russia, it's citizens and companies.
The renewed tensions between Russia and Ukraine started again in 2021 when it became obvious that Russia was considering another invasion of Ukraine, this time into areas of Donbas. After diplomatic talks with Russia failed in early February 2022, it escalated as Russia moved its forces into separatist controlled regions. On the 24th of February, 2022, Russia started a full invasion of Ukraine.
This morning, President Vladimir Putin made an announcement that Russia would be conducting special military operations. He implied it was a peace keeping mission to protect the Ukrainian seperatists.
He said, "Whoever would stop us, and further create threats to our country, to our people, should know that Russia’s response will be immediate and lead to such consequences that you have never faced in your history. We are ready for any outcome."
He also called on Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their arms, claiming he wanted a “demilitarisation” of the former Soviet state but not its occupation.
After this statements made in the early hours of today, reports of bombings surfaced as Russian troops immediately started to move into Ukrainian territory. US President Biden announced he would address the nation Thursday on “consequences” for Russia and said the world would “hold Russia accountable” for its actions. He said a Russian attack would cause “catastrophic loss of life and human suffering”.
On the other hand the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky made an emotional appeal to Europeans especially the Russians not to support a "major war in Europe". Zelensky said that he tried to call Putin but no answer, only silence and said that Russia had about 200,000 troops near Ukrainian borders.
it's too early to make any predictions about the outcome or effects of this ongoing crisis but at the onset we can see that the price of a barrel of oil has increased to $100, the highest it has ever been. Russia is one of the largest suppliers of energy in the world both in form of crude oil and natural gas, so it means that a war will cause further inflation in prices of energy. The financial market ( currency pairs and crypto currencies) in general has also taken a deep dive and could get worse if this drags on.
To say this will lead to a full blown Third World War would be speaking too soon, we can only hope that this conflict is quickly resolved and this crisis comes to a complete end. Some casualties have already been reported from both sides but this has to come to an end.
Below you can see a video showing the start of the invasion as of today.
To everyone in or around the countries in question. Please stay safe, these are though times and will over come it by the special grace of God.

I do not believe this conflict will escalate into a full blown world war, but I do know that of late Russia and China have been acting aggressively so some unknown reason, let's just hope for the best going forward. It's been a really long time since we've heard from you, looking forward to more informative articles like this.
