Who has not felt anxiety at some point in their life? Anxiety can be considered a normal emotion in human beings and represents an alert for those who feel it.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of restlessness, fear, It can make you feel super weird, feel sweating, palpitations, suffocation, It can be a normal reaction to stress. You can sometimes feel anxious if you're facing a difficult problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision. While anxiety can help you cope, as well as give you a boost of energy or help you focus, for people with anxiety disorders the fear is not temporary and can be truly overwhelming
Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders often have intense, excessive, and persistent worries and fears about everyday situations. Anxiety disorders often include repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that peak within minutes (panic attacks).
Symptoms
The most common signs and symptoms of anxiety include the following:
•Feeling nervous, agitated, or tense
• Sense of imminent danger, panic or catastrophe
•Increased heart rate
•Rapid breathing (hyperventilation)
•Sweating
•Tremors
• Feeling weak or tired
• Trouble concentrating or thinking about anything other than the current concern
•Have trouble falling asleep
• Suffer from gastrointestinal (GI) problems
•Have difficulty controlling worry
• Having the need to avoid situations that generate anxiety
Anxiety affects more women:
Studies have shown that the disorders arise in young adults (people from 18 to 35 years old) and sometimes even in children (separation anxiety, social phobia…). After a period of stability in middle age, a new upturn is observed after 65 years of age.
All studies indicate that anxiety affects twice as many women as men. This particularity does not have a single explanation and several hypotheses have been proposed, such as biological and hormonal characteristics, sociological factors (the social role of women) or psychological factors (sensitivity).
Anxiety disorders affect all social categories and people from all backgrounds.
