At times I wonder what it takes to command respect in professional fields. Easily, I’d have said ‘results’ do earn respect as in most cases. Or charisma, character, good looks maybe an advantage. Regardless, I’ll stick with results as it looks the most logical. Here’s an article of a living and much active football legend. It’s funny how one can be pivotal in your field of expertise and not get the recognition deserved. In such case, Nike got the response- Just do it!

I really don’t know if anyone has noticed how underrated German attacker Thomas Muller is, Yeah, we all know of him. He plays at Bayern Munich and a regular football fan would just say ‘Yeah, Muller is a good player’, nothing more nothing less but statistically, he’s such an exceptional talent. Even better than some of our acclaimed footballing idols and has something even our GOATs can’t brag about…Yeah, the World Cup. And he doesn’t wear the conventional fanciful jersey numbers, he’s that Lowkey. Balling in his no 25 shirt and 13 (at some point). Thomas Muller is an attacking all rounder and can even still be deployed in the midfield. ‘Muller’ seems to be an household name in German football. Is he related to Gerd  Muller?…Yes and No. Thomas Muller is in no way related to the German football Legend Gerd Muller but coincidentally, his father bears the exact same name. A fact for the road.

Thomas Muller is the most decorated German footballer in history. Having won 30 trophies including the most prestigious footballing trophy at international and club level (World cup once and champions league twice). it’s funny how he doesn’t get the headlines as such. Not even for transfer speculations, or off pitch scandals or even on field exploit as it should be. Thomas Muller has never been named German footballer of the year in his entire career. They say ‘if a man isn’t recognized in his homeland, how would he be overseas’.

Taking a cursory look at Thomas Muller’s all time career in numbers, he has an astonishing record of over 250 goals and 269 assists, well over 500 goal contributions in just over 700 matches. He is also the first German player to reach 50 champions league goals and can brag of more ucl goals than the likes of prolific scorers like Aguero, Drogba, Del Piero Neymar and even Ibrahimovic. And only Messi, Suarez and Ronaldo has more assists in football history than Thomas Muller. Individually, this man has achieved quite a lot too Winning the FIFA golden ball and best young player award at 2010 World Cup, Silver boot and silver ball at 2014, Bavarian order of Merit 2019, Most assists in a single bundesliga season (21) just to mention a few. And he hasn’t even been recognized as one of the top 3 best players in the world in his career. For his stats, class and profile, it’s quite underwhelming.

There you have it, that’s the man. Perhaps the most underrated footballer in recent times or in football history. Muller might not be ‘GOAT’ standards in that regard but he sure deserves deserves better accolades and recognition in all RAMification (pun intended).
