What is your Story?

Is your story so touching that anyone who hears it will pity you? Or is your story that of a fight who careless about people’s pity? Your story must fall within one of these two categories because every human being either tells a story to attract pity or praise. What prompts your story is it because of how badly you were treated by others especially friends or is it because you were able to overcome? There are one thousand and one questions that I could ask just to know or understand what inspires our story in life. One great thing you must know is that every one of us must have a story to tell.

The reality of life is the story you must either live to tell or allow others to tell it for you but your stories must be heard. When a man dies, family and well-wishers including scornful mourners will gather both in joy and in sadness to tell the story of how he conquered, even when it was obvious that the battleground swallowed him in whole. The story you have told about your loved one who passed unto eternity was a story of victory or vanquish? Too many stories falling from the lips of both a broken heart and a jubilant spirit, what is your story?

Let us imagine that you are called upon to come and narrate the story of your life, what would be your title and how will your opening sentence sound? It is not about being a writer or a storyteller it is about understanding that we must have a story to tell at the end of our journey here on earth. Whether we tell it by ourselves or not, what matters is that there must be a story that will walk and continue to walk the ends of the earth when we are gone. I have a story which I must tell or should I say which must be told with bravery and courage instead of pity and sadness. Life is a jungle where only the strongest will survive. Be you not deceived. To be strong in life is not of physical power rather it is of the strength of the mind of those who are moulded and formed with the hardest of steel the earth can ever produce. Have you ever wondered why two people will set out on a journey of actualizing their purpose in life but only one will come back victorious? Do you imagine that the one who failed ever planned or thought of failing? What is your story?

I cannot be a man that walks around the world without touching lives even in the smallest ways. When your story will be told, will be rejoicing and jubilating because of the tales of how you conquered not the world or your fellow human beings but, how you conquered injustice, wickedness, jealousy, pride and lies? Don’t think your journey of life will be filled with sweet memories alone because just as we have both hot and cold water as elements of nature, we also have good and evil at nature’s disposal. Don’t forget that whatever you seek in life, you must find because nature has it all and gives all free but the only thing is that you must ask before you will receive. Have you ever imagined the pregnant woman telling the story of pain and anguish which is associated with answering the call of womanhood and yet she joyfully opens the gate of creation anytime Adam knocks? Does that not tell you that even in pain, there is sweetness? Don’t you understand that pain only makes a weak heart stronger? Or have you not see the tears rolling down from the eyes of a little child as he falls and bruises his knee while trying to take his first step and yet he does not quit even in all the pain? What is your story?

If you are asked to delegate who will tell your story when you are gone, would call your friend or foe? I bet you will not like to hear the story of your life on the lips of your enemy because of the perceived discord existing amongst you. But I tell you, whether your story is told by your friend or foe, posterity will always prevail. What does this mean? It means that even if your friend fabricates sweet but soured truth just to paint you white while you are as black as the night, you will not escape the reward which the paymaster who is solely entitled to pay to all their wages either of sin or righteousness. Why not live your life to portray that which you would want to hear even in death. The birds will sing and jubilate about the passage of a virtuous woman and a pious man even if it is the last song it sings. Corruption is nothing but a virus that soaks and permeates the soul of a greedy and covetous man or woman even as they lay asleep on their bed every night. Your story should outlive you but what matters is what the title will be and how or what its content is. What is your story, dear friend?
