The first time I saw footages of war on the television, I remember how it made me feel and each time I see or hear about war, militancy or anything that threatens the peace of a nation, it makes me shade tears for the innocent people who will eventually become the victim of circumstance. It baffles me how some people will feel very ok watching footages of mass killing or massacre happening in one part of the world or another. This makes me feel as though they are not humans even though they exhibit other human attributes. I have always been an ambassador of peace anywhere I find myself, that is because I have come to understand that apart from the gift of life which our creator gives to us, the only thing that may stop us from achieving our dreams in life is insecurity. I decided to write this article after seeing the effect of insecurity in my country and other parts of the world. This leads me to ask this question; when you are not able to sleep, can you ever dream? This question is and should be seen as a proxy to what I want to discuss in this article. Therefore I urge you to join me through this journey of awareness and understanding.
The Ability to Dream lies in Sleeping
Have you ever wondered why you cannot dream as long as your eyes are wide open? It may interest you to know that dreaming is a subconscious part of a human being that is only triggered when the mind has fallen to sleep, leaving the brain to recalibrate for the work of the next day. Most times we find ourselves waking up to a very severe headache whenever our sleep has been interrupted abruptly. This is because the human body needs the required amount of sleep to rest and prepare for the task ahead. So many of us have received messages through the dream and some have been able to avert death and any strange things from happening because they were able to sleep which ushered in dreams. Have you cared to know what could have been happening if there is a high level of insecurity in our various communities?
I guess you know that none of us could have been able to sleep talk more of dreaming. Just take for instance the current war going on between Israel and Gaza it may interest you to know that lot of people have not been able to sleep because their minds are highly troubled so much so that sleep has eluded them. Some have been plunged into the state of mourning because of the loss of their loved ones which happened so fast and unpredicted that so many did not have the chance to say goodbyes. I will always say this to my friends each time I see them “one who does not give peace a chance is building a house for chaos”. Each time I make this comment they will always laugh and call me peace ambassador but I know that in their minds and whenever they have their solitude for meditation, they will always remember my statement. Even the animals love peace so much that they would not want to hear any loud explosion because once that happens, they will run away for safety. What does it tell us as humans?
This tells us that our existence as humans is solely hinged on our ability to maintain a certain level of security in our communities and the world at large. A society cannot work if there is no peace this is why I would want us to look at some of those things that can be affected by insecurity.
Human development
We already know that conception can take place when the egg of a man fertilizes the egg of a woman or even when IVF is conducted as a means of conception. It is also common knowledge that sex can only happen when the minds of both parties are at peace and it is during this time of peace that sexual pleasure can occur. What this means that if there is no peace, procreation will be highly affected and this leads to less human resources or manpower. A nation can only boast of its might when they have enough manpower to take care of things in the community.
Community development
I was watching CNN some days ago when I saw how a building was destroyed within a twinkle of an eye. It may sound unreasonable but insecurity will always breed destruction of life and property and it will never give room for infrastructural development. We all know that a country cannot stand if there are no infrastructural developments and what it means is that citizens of such a country will either become refugees in a foreign land or they will die trying to move around from one region of the country to another.
Agricultural developments
This is the most delicate factor which is highly affected by insecurity or war. Let us look at Nigeria in Africa. For the past few years now there have been stories of attacks on attacks on farmers by either bandits or issues of herdsmen clashing with farmers over crop destruction by cattle’s. This issue has been on for a very long time and it has negatively affected the price of food and other commodities in Nigeria. Without peace, the country may get to the level of not being able to feed its citizens and when this happens, there will certainly be anarchy in the country. Crime will be on the increase because when a man cannot take care of his family, he will certainly do anything possible to provide for them even when he knows that what he is doing is illegal.
Nothing affects the human, infrastructural and agricultural development of a nation more than insecurity or war. This is why we are all called to shun violence and say no to war and anarchy. If you look at the countries of the world today, you will understand that a lot of countries have crossed the line that demarcates peace and war. What this means is that these countries may never witness true peace which will bring about development and growth in the country. Countries like Libya, Nigeria, and Chad etc are already facing this great enemy that threatens peaceful human existence. Let us give true peace a chance for our world to strive in all things.
