Whenever you hear about money what is the first thing that comes to your mind? The way and manner we see money matters a lot because the society we live in has made it look as if money is the most important thing anyone can have. We wake from sleep with the thoughts of how we will make money or the contracts we can sign which will enable us to make more money and in all of these our intent is influenced and affected by public perception of money.
The question I asked above at the beginning of this article will require that you think more to understand this article and its concept. I am not going to talk about the meaning of money because it has been well overemphasised before now but I will lay more emphasis on how the way we see money affects the human mind.
Have you ever seen a situation where a person is accused of stealing money just because he looked at you as you were holding some cash in your hand? Such a thing can never happen because one cannot be called a thief just by mere looking at you but when an action is taking which leads to stealing such a person is now called a thief.
Now, the major problem is that we have become so conscious of money that we forget the reason while it was created and most importantly we have also forgotten that the money which we carry around is nothing but a piece of paper which has gotten its powers through us. Let me explain this a bit. Money was forged because people were looking for a means by which they can carry out the exchange of goods and services with one another this meant that money was nothing before its powers were given to it by us.
Now, as the consciousness and want for money grew, people began to lose their senses because of money or lack of it. Let us imagine that the exchange of goods and services is still carried out today in the old way of trade and barter, do you think that paper money will have any relevance in our world today? I bet you the paper would not have been in existence talk more of people doing all sorts of dirty things to have it. What I am saying in essence is that we are the ones that gave the paper money the power it controls till day. If we understand that paper money is nothing other than what we made to be, we would have had a better society where people will not do unthinkable things all in the name of making money.
I see people who will gladly throw away their lives or do anything for money just because they have developed this consciousness that money is the most important thing in life. I have asked a friend of mine this question before and I feel it will not be out of place for me to ask you my reader and friends the same question. Who is a rich man? Don’t be too quick to rush into any answer that comes to your mind rather I will advise you to take a minute to think about the question. In our world today, we see or say that one is rich because of the number of cars and houses or the assets they control. We even imagine someone who is dressed in a flamboyant way to be a rich man but riches goes beyond paper money.
Let me make a little exegesis. Mr Dash is known in his community as a rich man who uses his money to intimidate others because he feels money is everything. In that same community, there is a certain Mr Fart who does not have control of paper money but has managed to win the heart of the people of the community because of his kind heart and the love he shares with everyone who comes in contact with him. One faithful day a strong wind came with a heavy and destructive storm which destroyed both the houses of Mr Dash and Mr Fart. When the people of the community found out what happened, every single member of that community rallied round Mr Fart in solidarity and before he could know what was happening, the community built a new house for him without taking a dime from him, but in the case of Mr Dash, he did not get any help from anyone and for those who even rendered some help requested that he pays them for their services.
If you look at the above scenario, you will understand that money is not what makes one rich rather your good name does. A lot of people have died without anyone remembering them even with the whole money they acquired while they were alive, while some others died without having much money but yet they are still remembered till date. We must change our mindset towards how we see money and how we have become money conscious if we want to get a society free from every vice.
