The Mind of A Creative Writer.

Before I began my journey as a writer or if I may say a creative writer I use to imagine what goes on in the minds of writers any time I read a creative work or novel. This feeling made me pick interest in creative writing even though as a child I had the opportunity to read comic and non-comic novels which also helped me to delve into this great ocean that has never been fully tapped. One thing you must understand is that every creative writer sees beyond the physical be it about a word or anything, he does not dwell on the word or the thing rather he allows his mind to go into what I call the state of imaginative awareness. Take for instance were two individuals are asked to creatively write about a mango, the mind of the creative writer will not focus so much o the tree rather it will go beyond what is seen to the unseen properties of the mango tree and this imaginative thinking will lead him into writing a story about the mango tree. This story will be all-encompassing because it will link the tree to other things like the animals and how they all came to coexist but for the one who is not a creative writer, he will just talk about the physical attribute of a mango tree.

Now, the above example is something I have studied and watched closely. While I was doing my online classes on creative writing in the UPTRENND UNIVERSITY I found out that writing is not just about joining the pen and the paper for the ink to be seen rather it is something that takes the mind on a journey of incredible imaginative thinking. I remembered in one of the assignments I did, I was told to write about a race to MOUNT EVEREST.  For a non-creative writer, it may seem too difficult probably because you have never made a physical journey to the mountain but for a creative writer, he will see it as an opportunity to make an imaginary journey to the mountain because he knows and understands that a creative writer deals more on imaginations.

All I needed for that assignment to be successful was a little background story of Mount Everest and some pictures. This shows that a creative writer does not need to experience something before he could write about it. It is all in the imaginations of the mind. After the assignment, I began to understand why it is called creative writing. Most times we do not understand what it means to be a creative writer and this makes our work so dull and limited. I remembered an article I wrote about how the Peony the king of followers.  If you are opportune to read through this story, you will see imagination working in consonance with the physical. It is not just about imagining things, you must be very careful to make sure that your imagination is working hand in hand with the physical because that is the only way for your readers to understand and enjoy reading your work.

Take a look at good authors you will notice that they will make sure not to allow their imagination to overtake that sense of physical awareness so as not to keep their reader's mind’s unsettled. I have seen a lot of people talking about how they will want to be getting tipped on this platform. My humble advice to you is that you should allow your imagination to rule the physical when it comes to creative writing and for your information that is why it is called creative writing in the first instance. Another reason why you must allow your imagination to come into play is for you to allow yourself to freely bear your mind in your way. Most times when we read a book or hear a story when we want to tell this story we end up almost telling it in verbatim i.e. word to word as we were told. This does not make a good creative writer.

You must be ready to allow yourself to pour out what it has assimilated during listening to the story because our minds are specially made in a way that it can recreate events or incidents it has witnessed or heard of. When you want to go into creative writing, there are some basic things you must do to achieve success. Some of those things are;

·        You must be a good reader.

·        You must be ready to listen to others without interruption.

·        You must put your mind to the test by asking questions like why, how, what if etc.

·        You must be ready to sit down at a particular place and imagine things without any form of distractions.

·        You must train your mind to see beyond the physical.

·        You must be ready to open your mind so that you will know when a word, phrase or even a sentence that can lead you to write an article flows in.

·        Above all, you must be ready to trust yourself 100%.

These are some of the things one can do to improve on creative writing. Everybody can write but not everybody can be creative with writing. It is a thing of the mind and individual decision. Let me challenge you right now. In your next article, try and write about that glass cup you see every day in your house. Tip; don’t see it as a mere glass cup rather look at it beyond its physical attribute in that way the glass cup will talk to you as regards what you will write. I bet you don’t know that these none living things have a way of talking to us but it takes only the mind of a creative writer to hear them talk.
