From the holy book we were meant to understand that the world was created through the power of Gods spoken words. What this means is that there is great power in the tongue of every human being living under the earth. The problem we have is that we do not understand the level of power that resides in our tongues as humans which is why I have decided to discuss the powers of the tongue in this article.

You must have heard someone saying I will curse you either to you or to another person. In such a scenario one is advised not to do things that will warrant another to lay any form of curse on him.

There are three major things the tongue can be used for namely;

·        Speaking

·        Taste

·        Used to bless or curse

There may be other things the tongue can be used for but I decided to outline these three because of their importance in human being. Let me state that there I have not seen or heard about any human born without a tongue in their mouth but for the sake of this article and learning if you have seen or heard of anyone born without a tongue in their mouth please feel free to share with us in the comment section.

The tongue as a tool for speaking

Source

When a baby is born, the baby is expected to cry as loud as possible to enable the free movement of the tongue which will give the baby the ability to speak at the right time. For some babies that do not cry immediately after they were delivered, the doctor or midwife will try to hit the baby gently on the buttocks as a way to force him to cry. In any case that the baby refuses to cry it becomes a red flag that all may not be well with the baby regarding speaking.

This is to show how important speaking is for human beings. When we talk about speaking, the tongue is highly recognized to be a great tool for speaking because one cannot speak without the aid of the tongue. Sometimes I will try and hold down my tongue just to make sure that it does not have the free movement as I want to talk and the result is always unpleasant. I will end up not saying anything someone can understand. Now, if we can speak with the aid of the tongue what it means is that the power of speech resides in our tongue therefore we must take care of our tongue at all times.

The tongue as a tool for tasting

This aspect is well understood by the ladies probably because they frequent the kitchen more than the guys as they go about cooking. This does not mean that the guys do not cook as well. For everyone who goes into the kitchen to cook every once in a while, you will bear me witness that the tongue comes in handy whenever it’s time for a tasting of food either to check the level of spices or how peppery the food taste. My little knowledge of biology made me understand that the tongue has segments that are covered by taste bulbs and each segment takes care of bitter, sweet and soured tastes respectively. That is why you will do at least a second taste check to confirm what you noticed in the first one.

The tongue as a tool for blessing or curse

As a child, I was thought not to disobey my parents because if they should curse me, such a curse will come to pass. As I began to understand why someone’s spoken words will come to pass on another person, I found out that the power which is vested on the tongue started from creation. Remember the creation story and how God spoke everything into a form that is how powerful our tongues have become.

I have seen families, societies and even nations destroyed by a mere spoken word. Don’t get it twisted, whether it is spoken verbally or written, it is still a spoken word and it means that the tongue is still in action. As a father or a mother, you must take extreme care not to lay any form of curse on your children knowingly or unknowingly. Whatever you say will surely come to pass therefore you must desist from saying things you know that won’t bring blessings to them.

In our culture as Africans especially I the Igbo culture, the tongue is highly revered because of the powers it has that is why you will hear an adage that says “the wicked medicine man is still in the forest looking for herbs he will use to conjure his poisonous charm not knowing that the gossip has already gone into the village to cause chaos with his tongue”. This adage simply states that the tongue works faster than any poison or charm. If you want to see your children flourishing as a parent please try and make it a point of duty to always bless them every day with your tongue.

As a married woman or man, you must understand that the tongue can be a very destructive weapon that can shatter your family within a short time. When there is a misunderstanding, it is advisable to calm down before allowing your tongue to serve as the knife that cuts the umbilical cord of marriage. Remember that the statement which you have heard may as well be gossip which is used by the enemy to destroy you. Even in your relationship with others you must always try and verify every word or statement you hear to be sure that you are not acting out of place.

The power of the tongue cannot be overemphasized.  Remember the Trump saga and the attack on the pentagon by his supporters just because of the words and statements made by Trump. That is one of the very many things that the tongue can and will do if you do not watch what you say and sieve what you hear. The tongue is and will always serve as our tool for blessing both to us and others. Let us be guided in all that you do.
