Have you ever survived a near-death experience or have you ever been removed from an impending danger just by your instincts? A lot of us have witnessed this in our lives in one way or the other and it is not because we are superhumans or aliens rather it is basically how we were wired from birth. The reason most persons have not experienced it is that they do not listen to their instinct. The basic human behaviour will always come to play when there is an impending danger; this will keep every part of the body at alert because the mind is feeling insecure. Just as we can see in the way the human body reacts to sex when the mind is not at rest; it becomes very hard for one to have any form of sexual urge because the mind is a race for survival.
I have heard people saying that there is nothing like instincts and each time I encounter such persons, I try so hard to convince them otherwise because I am among the school of thought that believes in human instincts. For the records, I have been saved from danger severally just because I listened to my instinct. Sometimes it speaks to me like I am having a normal discussion with another person; it will open every option therein so that I can consider and make the right choice. Someone may say that I am psychopathic but I would say that I have trained myself to always listen to my instinct. Most times it comes as a reflex action on extreme cases. That is the reason why your eyes will close once it feels threatened by an incoming object.
I was moved to write this article after an event that happened to my friend on Wednesday. For me, it was an act of God done through the help of his instinct. I got a call from him around noon on that day and from his voice, I could sense a bit of agitation or should I say he sounded like someone who escaped death or something similar. Out of curiosity, I inquired what the problem was. He kept silent for a while and then said; “please join me and thank the Lord, I am still alive”. The moment I had this statement, I became more confused and I bet he sensed my confusion from the way I stuttered with the question; what happened? He took a sigh of relief and said; “I would have been dead by now if not that I listened to my instinct”. I have known him to be someone who believes in the power of listening to your instinct in whatever you are doing. Being the type of person who believes in the power of instincts, I immediately said; “thank God”.
He continued with his story of how he woke up in the morning on that faithful day having this mixed feeling of someone who is not healthy and not sick at the same time. He said that he had already made plans of travelling on that day since last week, so after his morning prayer he started preparing himself for the journey but as he was preparing, he was still feeling this uneasiness of mind. He gathered the courage to continue with his plans and after preparing, he left the house for the park where he will board a vehicle for the journey. He said that as he got closer to the park, the feeling of uneasiness increased and that kept him so worried. When he entered the park, he went straight to the terminal where he will make his payment and collect his ticket. As he finished making his payment, he was directed to the bus that was loading. Immediately he entered the bus and sat down but his mind was still not at rest.
While they were seated waiting for other passengers to board the vehicle, something unusual happened. A woman walked straight to the side of the vehicle towards the area he was seated and greeted him. He responded even though he did not recognise her face, this made him ask her; any problem? She looked at him and said that he should do her a favour. He was surprised as to what kind of favour she was talking about. She continued with her story of her she would want him to sell his ticket to her that she needs to get to the company that called her for an interview. He gave her a stern look just to be sure that she was not lying. As he was still thinking of what to do, a voice spoke within him and told him to give her his ticket and wait for the other bus since he was just travelling to go see a friend.
He said the moment he heard the voice, he stood up from his seat and alighted from the vehicle, handed the ticket to the woman who quickly gave him the money equivalent of the ticket. He said he went back into the terminal and pushed another ticket for the next bus. He said that due to low turnout of passengers, the bus was delayed a bit but after some time, they drove off from the park. At this point, he said that he was no longer feeling the uneasiness any more but as they were approaching a junction after they have driven for close to an hour, the driver applied the brake and as the bus was slowed down he said that he looked out through the window and saw a bus that was involved in an accident. On a closer look he recognised the bus as the first bus he boarded at the park. Even the driver shouted because it was their company bus. At that instant, he said that he just alighted from the bus and moved closer only to see the woman lying lifelessly by the bush side with a lot of bloodstains all over her.
My friend said that instantly he broke down in tears as he remembered how he switched his ticket with the woman earlier at the park. As he stopped talking, I knew he was in tears and I said to him; “God saved you today because you listened to your instinct”. He told me that he wanted to say no to the woman but something very strong lifted him from his seat. I know to someone reading this article, you may think it’s a fictional story but I tell you that what you just read happened to my very good friend. We always have our instinct talking to us every minute of the day but the problem is that we have been neglecting it for so long which is why most times it does not talk to us.
