Low Self-Esteem.

The life of every man and woman lies solely on how he/she can live above all the limitations that come from within which no one else will be able to do for him/her. It is not like a spiritual possession of a human being where the help of an exorcist will be needed for total deliverance even though most times the possessed person ends up not being the same after deliverance. In the case of self-acquired limitations, the person involved will have to go the route of delivering himself otherwise he may end up seeing himself as a lower being which in turn will affect the way he relates with others especially in public.

I have always heard and seen people who are suffering from this great human emotional defect that creeps in gradually if given the chance consciously or unconsciously. The truth remains that most times people do not believe that they are suffering from this great enemy of man. I was moved to write about this topic today because of what I witnessed yesterday while I was having a chat with some friends.

In the cause of our discussion, someone just threw in a question probably because he wanted to get cleared on the issue bordering on crypto trading. Before he asked the question, we were discussing a Chinese youth who made over $100m trading in the comfort of his house. Now, his question was; can anybody do crypto trading? At first, his question sounded more like a normal question of someone who is intrigued about something and would ask in a bid to know more, but when it became clearer that he was asking this question out of his belief that crypto trading is not a venture for everybody because he thinks it is for those who are known as gigs or genius. At this point, I became kind of disappointed because this guy is someone who has successfully started his own business from the scratch and has been able to grow it to where it is now.

This made me think about what could be the cause of such an industrious young man having such thought about crypto trading. An answer came to my head instantly and this made me ask him a question. I asked him; do you think anybody can do what you have done by starting a business from the scratch and growing it to the level it is now? He looked at me and said, “anybody can do it, it is just a business”. This was when it became clear to me that he was having a problem of low-self esteem and this led us into a counselling session immediately because I did not want him to go home having such a mindset. Because I wanted to drive home my point and the reason why I think he is suffering from low-self esteem even though he argued it, I had to paint a picture of a ceramics mug and a wine glass. I also moved further connecting a kettle and a pot in the picture. This was how the counselling session went.

Ceramics Mug/ Wine Glass

We all know and understand what a ceramics mug or cup is because it is virtually present in all our houses. I have learnt that the ceramics cup is used more for drinking hot liquid, because of its ability to retain the hotness at least for some time and because the hotness of the liquid cannot break it on like the wine glass which will break if hot water is poured into it. On the other hand, the Wine Glass is mainly used for wine and in some cases, people use it to scoop ice cream from the bucket of ice cream they have in their refrigerator, some even go to the extent of using it to drink tea or coffee with warm water.  Now, the important question to ask is this; does it mean that the ceramics mug/cup cannot be used to drink wine? You and I know the answer to that question because most times in our houses, we have used it to drink wine just because it was close by when we needed to pour some wine for ourselves.

The Kettle and the Pot

These two friends are well known for their escapades in the kitchen and in all the eateries we have all around the world. One thing you will understand about these two friends is that they both have a common enemy known as fire but should we call fire their enemy? Lol… That will be a tale of another day. Now, a chef cannot say that because he has a pot in his kitchen, he would not need the services of the kettle. He wouldn’t even say the same for the pot if it was the other way round. Why is it so? The chef understands that they are both unique and are made for different purposes which cannot be changed unless on special arrangement. If the chef has such belief and understanding over the kettle and pot, why do you as a young man or woman find it so hard to believe that you are a Unique being?

A lot of us do not know that low-self esteem comes as a result of a lack of self-belief. The Chinese young man who traded crypto and made over $100m has his uniqueness and believes in it which is why he was able to excel. I looked at my friend at this point and asked him this personal question to which every one of us must try to answer to. I asked him; do you believe in yourself? He looked at me in awe because he has never thought that there will be a time when such a question will be thrown at him. Because I understood what he was feeling at that moment, I told him not to bother answering the question here rather he should go home and think about the answer he intends to give because I would want him to be sure of his response.

I ask you, yes, you reading this article, DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF? You have to look inward to understand if you do or not and if you find out that you do not believe in yourself, please do everything you can to work on your self-esteem because that might be the reason why you are not progressing in your field of endeavour. Say no to low-self esteem because it can kill your dreams in life.
