When you are asked to take a look at something, do you need to have the biggest of eyes before you will be able to see? Thank God today is Friday which means that a lot of us will be enjoying our weekend with our loved ones and families. Ok, let us go straight into the business of the day but before I do that, I would want you to have an open-mindedness towards the content of this article because I intend to make you understand that what determines where you will be or what you will achieve in life is not how far or how fast you have gone in life. The title does the size of your eyes matter was a deliberate pun (a play on words) to spur you into critical thinking which will allow you to see life and its successes in a different dimension. Now, for us to achieve this, I will like to look at the eye as an organ of the body concerning its size and the connection it has towards sight.
EYE
The eye as we all know is an organ for sight and it may interest you to know that no one would ever wish to be born without this important organ. Our study of biology made us understand that the eye has four parts that makeup vision which are Cornea, Pupil, Iris and the Lens. Three layers lie flat against each other to form the eyeball they are: sclera the white part of the eye, Choroid the middle layer of the eye and the Retina which serves as the inner layer. The size of a human adult eye is approximately 24.2mm (horizontal), 23.7mm (vertical), 22.0-24.8mm (axial, anteroposterior) with no significant difference between sexes and age groups meanwhile in the transverse diameter, the eyeball size may vary from 21mm to 27mm (source). Having seen all of these characteristics of the eye, I will like to look at the eye as regards the effects the size of the eye has on sight.
THE BIGGER THE EYE THE BETTER THE SIGHT
This is one aspect of the eye that has raised a lot of questions and so many opticians have carried one form of research or the other to ascertain if the size of one’s eyes will affect what he sees. Well, the human eyes are almost the same in size but what happens is that when there is too much light, the retina reduces in size to control the amount of light that goes through the eyes in that way, the eye will be able to see. This also happens when there is little or no light. The retina expands as a way to allow vision even in the dark. So the size of the eyes i.e. its diameter may not necessarily determine how or what it sees. Having said this let me connect this to life reality and I will do this by asking us this question. Does your physical body height determine how far you will go in life?
YOUR BODY HEIGHT AND SUCCESS
This is one area where a lot of people do not understand as regards human life and achievement most times it makes those who see themselves as tall people look down on others. Well, I must say that human height to an extent goes a long way towards what one achieves in life but is it a criterion for success in life? The answer to this question is NO. Your body height does not determine your level of success in life just as the size of your eyes does not determine the range of your sight. Looking at your area and the people who have made a name in their respective fields, you will understand that even those who are not tall are also in the number count. Just as the aroma of a dish does not determine how sweet a dish is until tasted that is that same way our height does not determine our success.
The only thing that might happen is that in a situation where a job requires you to have some desired length as a human before you can get the job, it can make people with average height lose such opportunity. This is also seen in an area where the height of one does not count just like in football where we have seen great legends that have made it in the field of play with less height. People like late Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Kun Aguero, J.J Okeocha and numerous others who I may not mention here. This goes a long way to show that human body height does not determine the level of success one attains in life.
