Why can't we harness lightning energy?

Hi,

The reasons for why we can't harness are:

  1. The energy which we get from lightning is around 300KWH and a bulb will consume around 20W per hour and average power consumption of a home is 1000KWH.

  2. Assume a device is made to capture the energy from the lightning, the point is you have to install it at a place where lightning occurs and it is very difficult to predict where the lightning will strike.

  3. If every house has their own device and installed on their rooftops, the cost to build those devices will be very high and on average there will be around 300 strikes in a year.

  4. Even though you capture the energy from it, the energy will be discharged very soon and such high currents can damage the appliances and we need good storage devices. These storage devices can be made of the material of the asteroids ( I read it in an article but i did not found the link to post ).

So it is better to use other natural resoures like solar and wind energy which will be available for lifetime and use it as per the requirments.
