The outer layer of the charger is made of tough plastic material mostly polycarbonate.

You put the charger into the 230V socket in your homes and your phone will be charged.

Mechanism behind it :

There will be a smal transformer inside it called as ferrite transformer which has 6 pins which steps down the 230v AC into 5–6v AC.

Your phone needs DC supply to work so the AC supply should be converted to DC with the help of a rectifier circuit.

This rectified output is the input for your mobile phone to charge and the output voltage is 5v and 1A,1.5A,2A,3A etc.
